Volkswagen Golf problem?

bought 04 volkswagen golf r32 82k miles on 2 weeks ago. acceleration getting worse , worse. started @ 6 clock tonight when driving home work. seems have 30% less power , not getting better. should drive sears auto in morning or have towed, dont want hurt engine or transmission.? neighbor says may catylitic converter? friend doubts have problem cat.-con. on 04 reason. help!!!??? thank you...
