Transition from expensive broker to self serve budget broker?
here's situation, have money in combination of roth ira accounts , non-tax-sheltered investments calls himself financial advisor vsr. gets commission based on has me buy. don't arrangement because wants me buy , sell often. i'm having fill out capital gains/losses on taxes because of high frequency of how wants me move money around. i'm 35, , want stuff sit, , buy when have new money invest.
i'm not asking should money, nor asking if should away person. i've either made decision take money out of expensive advisor. i'm giving information background. hate when people ask questions on here , don't give background. questions have today 2 things.
1. kind of self-serve online broker suggest. i'm looking has low fee buying mutual funds. don't plan on buying individual stocks. "free" site zecco looks me, costs $10 buy mutual fund. discount broker wants buy mutual funds intention of keeping them long term. specifically, low/no buy/sell fee, , no annual fees. i'm going in mutual funds, , have both roth ira's , "regular" non-tax-sheltered accounts.
2. once decide brokerage company go with. process go through smoothly move money away expensive personal financial advisor, , discount broker? don't want sell have because don't want more capital gains/losses have to. have half of total "portfolio" in money market account right (long story - not important). want wait buy mutual funds after open discount brokerage account.
