How to share files and printer?

have 2 laptops, 1 hp, other compaq. compaq connected directly adsl modem broadband internet, while hp connects compaq thru ethernet wire. hence hp can access internet long compaq connected internet.
i'd make folder share files between 2 laptops. how do that?
also, have canon printer connected directly compaq. how program hp laptop such can send print canon printer?
