Specialized Printers?

hypothetically, if make graphic novel , self publish it, use specialized graphics printer of sort? or specialized printers book printers, , whether or not use images isn't issue.

example, i've been told if self publisher goes printing should hard pressed use printer specializes in books instead of printer because quality of book ruined if printer doesnt know how handle material properly. same kind of concern graphic novels (go graphic printer or book printer?).
