Canada/US customs - border crossing tax's on purchases - Tax on Shipping Fees??

canadian citizen, , live in border city us. (windsor, ontario/ detroit michigan)
because of have family canadian citizens work in us.
shop online often, , have things shipped brothers work in michigan since many online shops don't ship canada.
when declare goods @ border on our way on canada, charge tax on purchased in us. (since tax in michigan 6% ontario tax 13%)

question is, if purchased item $5 , shipping cost $100. taxed on $5, or $105?? (this not case, simpler explain way)
can customs charge tax on shipping (service) costs? or product physically crosses border?
