Wierd Subaru 2.2L Engine Sound?

own 1999 subaru impreza outback sport (manual) 2.2l h4 engine (142hp @ 5600rpms). whenever engine speed 3000rpms makes strange sound before 3000 , after 3000 , continues go 5000 until starts make sound again.

wish had audio of share have do. sounds grinding sort of , kind of low pitched rumble screatch! isn't loud , don't hear if engine's warmed up.

engine works fine , quite bit of power 5000rpms ok since old car, scares **** out of me because think somethings wrong it! shift 2500rpms while driving, possibly engine reacting me abusing it?

started doing winter , think might cold weather causing want make sure. been -10c
