Please help with this financial question about debt collectors?

long time ago owed money college $1000 or planning pay when got money month after got debt got call nco collector telling me debt. told him going pay needed more time because $1000 isn't easy save up, sayed want settle in court , admitt scared me. sayed if payed monthly gave him banking account charge me monthly fees. paying off fee , when got $100 couldnt pay told him cancel month because in financial crisis , said didnt care , start paperwork court, got mad , sayed dont care , hung up. didnt hear them till today got phone call number 18778470092 , machine googled , got site , read stuff , feel got ripped off , in way treated bad when couldnt that. , way payed more owed because supposedly charge services , think if remember $5 or $10 per check.so added $1500, of been $100 more didnt pay. stupid in believing threats , taking insults. did ripped off , think college got payed? can me this? here email
