Are 2008 volkswagen passats reliable?

have 2001 passat, , part excellent car - people still comment on "new car" - dealer warned me when got it's full of audi , bmw parts , expensive repair, , yes, correct. mine has had 2 major problems: 1) cooling system meltdown @ 72k, 2) timing belt broke @ 92k. both covered under warranty not financially ruinous - have been thousands of dollars fix both times, if not on warranty. 100k drive train warranty if plan keep car long. car had 0 problems first 60k miles. asking mechanic re if don't renew warranty @ 100k, said "well, has timing belt gone out yet?". guess happens @ high mileage. said since timing belt has gone out, renewing warranty not worth it.

turbos need premium gas, gas mileage car size. should synthetic oil, because not doing regular oil changes synthetic oil can increase risk of engine problems (at least on 2001). body work expensive.

insurance has cost same old sentra. passats have excellent safety ratings expensive fix, sentras cheap fix driving tin can (not safe).

i have been looking @ awhile, tells me volkswagens not unreliable, expensive insure , repair if damaged. wondering because considering it.
