1989 Toyota V-6 Water Pump?

lady friends truck overheating. i'm shadetree mechanic.
1989 toyota v-6 3.0l 4wd (only 92,000 original miles)
replaced thermostat , radiator cap.
still overheating.
tells me heard grinding sound front end.
ordered water pump. $70.00 (i hope comes seals etc)
i'm wondering:

a. bet timing belt needs replaced. (70k miles hear)
b. don't know if can tackle water pump.
c. radiator etc need come out properly?
d. maybe should local mechanic it?

trying save money.thanks in advance input may have.
