Computer/printer question?

have lexmark x5470 printer. have compaq presario pc , running windows vista home premium. had update (an update automatic when click start button log off) on 5/27/08. since time computer has been unable communicate printer, , nothing prints. printer send pop on monitor says "communication not available" , computer says me "problem communicating printer." printer on, usb working (or diagnostics says), have unplugged , replugged cords, did system restore did not work , undid system restore. removed program , reinstalled it, still won't work. clue wrong printer/ computer? thank in advance!
