Canon Powershot g9 and band photography?

have couple years of experience dslrs, sold camera , took break world of photography. don't plan on buying dslr yet, (i freelancer), , not have experience on band photography. first attempt @ band photography. know dslr provide greater results, in matter of don't want go through process of getting editiors/venues permission. motion still difficult subject me, still need practice before going out bands.

thinking of buying external flash , filter 58mm lens adapter.

yes i'm aware end costing as slr. don't want slr right now, because won't doing compared lightweight point&shoot manual settings.

should go through this? answers/opinions?
