Can I immigrate to Canada from the US and still retain my US citizenship?

heavily considering moving canada (b.c.) in 5 years time. rn @ end of 5 years , husband certified (licensed) mechanic. planning on coming country on work permit , have passed entrance test based on above information. have maternal uncle living in canada immigrated 15 years ago, mother seems think has called "dual citizenship". meaning both canadian & u.s. citizen. true, exist? if so, pros & cons keeping both? still required pay u.s. taxes if don't reside in states?
