Higher taxes in exchange for paid maternity / paternity leave?
...and "leave," don't mean measly 6 - 12 weeks in few states offer family leave, unpaid or @ 55% pay maximum.
have liked have seen candidates address issue, unfortunately, americans apparently don't find priority other issues.
4 countries in world not offer form of paid parental leave - united states, liberia, swaziland, , papua new guinea.
many countries offer generous paid maternity/paternity benefits new parents, job guarantees upon returning work (e.g canada - 1 year, sweden - 2+ years, france , germany - 3 years, etc.) countries such ones in scandinavia force fathers take 3 months off care child. these countries have lower infant mortality rate , higher life expectancy women.
so, women -- willing pay higher taxes can take 1 year or more off after birth of child?
men -- willing pay higher taxes take time off, or wife / girlfriend can stay home baby , don't need stick 2 month old in daycare?
how long think maternity leave should be? willing pay more in taxes (if necessary) cover it? think maternity leave benefits society whole? more valuable investment in society other things government spends tax money on?
