'o dreary life,' cry, ' o dreary life ! '
, still generations of birds
sing through our sighing, , flocks , herds
serenely live while keeping strife
heaven's true purpose in us, knife
against may struggle ! ocean girds
unslackened dry land, savannah-swards
unweary sweep, hills watch unworn, , rife
meek leaves drop year]y forest-trees
show, above, unwasted stars pass
in old glory: o thou god of old,
grant me smaller grace comes these !--
patience blade of grass
grows by, contented through heat , cold.
