Is there a big difference in oil paint and acrylic paint?
acrylic paints made type of plastic, , oil paints oil based. biggest difference between 2 acrylics dry *much* faster. oils stay wet , malleable lot longer. have more time blend colors , create layers oils. cheaper acrylic paints tend have "plastic" look, not deep oils, there brands of acrylics oil paints. main difference oils take lot longer dry. also, use different spirits , turpentines thin out oil paints and/or clean brushes. acrylics, use water paints dry , can destroy brushes easily.
oil paints more fragile acrylics... oil paintings more prone aging, yellowing , becoming brittle. acrylics more resistant wear/tear/age. also, acrylics versatile , can mix them other materials, such pens, charcoal, ink, etc. acrylics more versatile paint. acrylics, can mimic of oil paintings watercolors , in between. oil paints preferable if main goal paint lot of layers , blend colors extensively. otherwise, think acrylics lot easier , more practical work with.
edit: 6 foot wide painting, oils more expensive (although not much) , take long time dry. however, you'd have lot of time blend paint. acrylics, paint dry quickly, , don't know if that's want if painting large.
what's big difference?
