Colonial America taxation rates vs current taxation rate.?
i'm interested in estimated taxation rates in america have been throughout it's history. know there wasn't "income tax" per se, in days, under british rule, there taxes on items (tea, paper, glass, etc). i'm looking sort of idea of percentage of income colonial days present has been taxed. rough estimate of average citizen has paid (annually) in taxes historically (% based on annual income). i'm not looking year year starting in 1700's more of averages periods. time frames (i.e. wwii), higher todays "average" rate, , expected.
example - irs 33%, state 2%, sales tax 5%, governmental fees, excise tax, gas tax, cig tax, etc 12% = total amount paid in taxes 52%.
know won't easy question answer, off cuff, if point me towards web references, gather information, can compile information. thnx.
