Boat architecture and design?

in there 3 (civilian) schools offer bs in naval architecture , marine engineering. these (ranked in personal opinion of respected first) webb institute in glen cove, ny, university of michigan , university of new orleans. uno has more of focus on smaller work boats, it's choice if interested in tugs or osvs.

there additional schools offer degrees in ocean engineering or small wooden boat design. typically ocean engineering focuses on designs of ports , offshore structures. wooden boat design schools can found along east coast , more of apprenticeship program taught trade or art instead of engineering program.

naval academy , merchant marine academy both have ship systems design programs understanding not hull design programs.

average pay entry level nav arch can vary - depending on area of country work in , area of field choose work in. pay person working in small boat design group lot lower pay @ big oil company. starting salary range classmates (in 2005) 48k 61k (+bonuses). 3 years later believe salary range among classmates along lines of 60 80k + bonuses (keeping in mind there several people in group advanced degrees too.)

fyi: @ webb (virtually) 100% of students have sat scores on 1200... average 1410 class , similar if not higher other classes while there. (that before writing section - i'm not sure how scores calculated now.) luck! start preparing competitive program , have great field , wonderful opportunities ahead of you!
