Paying For College As A Independent Student?

okay, - you're off bad start, because haven't familiarized process. start reading department of education handbook i've linked below.

parents don't "cosign" fafsa. free application federal student assistance form must fill out in order apply educational assistance government. no 1 cosigns it, parents required provide department of education information financial circumstances.

financial aid "status" not elect voluntarily - considered dependent student, unless there's important forgot mention in question.

designation of "dependency" determined specific rules part of federal law created government's educational aid system. law says dependent student unless can answer "yes" 1 of following questions. (these questions, ignore tries tell you can change dependency status if move out, or if parents don't claim on taxes, or stupid that).

must able answer yes to..

born before january 1, 1985?
married?
provide more 50% of financial support child or children of own?
provide more 50% of financial support non-child dependent lives in home
now, or declared ward of court before 18th birthday?
veteran of military?
active duty member of military?

i'm assuming answer of these questions "no" - therefore depedent student financial aid purposes, , thing can change married, join service, or start having kids (and paying bills)

read booklet below , have parents read too. explains federal aid program in easy-to-understand terms. answer questions you've asked above, , lots of other questions haven't thought of yet. it's called "funding education beyond high school: guide federal student aid"

luck!

i'm 17 year-old going college & both parents have fair credit, can't co-sign me on fafsa. type of financial aid (scholarships, loans, etc.) can acquire independent. find low-cost interest.
