rob correct. aircraft mechanics have either airframe rating, powerplant rating, or usually, both, , called a&p mechanics. can repair or replace component on aircraft except can't work on avionics system. can remove , replace components of , work on aircraft wiring.

avionics technician has @ least mechanic's license airframe rating, it's not required long licensed mechanic removes , installs components.
