How can I make this bicycle commute work for me?

used bicycle commute soho in nyc riverdale (15 miles) , door-to-door time bit under 2 hours. i've moved neighborhood puts me 20 miles away job in soho.

before commute tough (i'm 51) exhillerating! seemed limit (4 hrs on bike each day!)

tried new commute , 3 hours each way! how can make work? have commuter bike (jamis commuter 1.0) if buy women's racing bike, cut down on time coming in?

i'm toying idea of electric bike, not sure that...my bike puts me in upright position riding, helps me see traffic, i'd willing try racing bike if thought shave time off commute...any suggestions? thanks...
