Wondering how much different living in Denmark would be compared to The United States.?
others have said, it's quite different places in states.
1) it's white white-sand beaches white. tall white people everywhere. overt racism pretty rare, there xenophobia. i've seen, it's still nothing deep south in u.s.
2) people drink. while not acceptable drunk @ 9 a.m. sure hell acceptable buy bottle of beer , drink @ 9 a.m. (not @ regular office job of course). , in winter, stay out til 4 drinking, that's way if you're under 50.
3) when first moved new york, thought people cold. after living in nyc 12 years , moving copenhagen, learned cold is. people seem quite cold, in fact, want talk , want know other people other places. sounds odd, there's strange code of etiquette danes live requires reserved in behavior, takes little work conversation going.
4) it's expensive. extreme. bottle of decent beer @ cheap store cost @ least $1.50 (and that's rising time decline of american dollar). @ bar pint of regular beer can cost around $7, , beer $10+. income taxes start @ %50, no joke. cars taxed @ approximately %200 (you pay car, pay twice value of car in taxes).
5) along same lines, food expensive compared states , in general there's less variety. again, not saying there's no variety, or it's bad, comparison may find food here of lesser quality , more expensive. cheeses softer , smellier, there's lot of fish related products, food-wise things plain different. now, danes take lot of pride in foods , goods produced in denmark, , goods Økologisk, or ecological/organic. there's ton of organic produce , goods, , danes take conservation , concern environment seriously.
5) scheduling: social scheduling important. people don't bop around , show @ friend's place. it's considered rude.
6) weather: in winter can expect sun rise after 9 in morning , set before 3 in afternoon. have guess sun rose or set though, because constant cloud-cover @ approximately 100 ft altitude , near daily rain showers obscures fact. very, very, dark, , very, very, long period of time. however, right now, sun rising around 5 in morning, , setting after 9 p.m. @ night. we've had 3 straight weeks of beautiful weather, , people walking around big unstoppable smiles on faces. it's awesome, , it's may. height of summer have sunrise before 4 a.m. , sunset after 11 p.m. wrap head around numbers- it's lot of light. if it's raining, it's pretty nice.
7) peaceful- mentioned, yep, it's peaceful. there strange happenings every , again people take streets protest ungdomshus (look up) or treatment of immigrants, or possibly, notorious cartoons... i've walked cops wearing riot gear, , received jovial, warm reception. crime ridiculously low, , people laid back, getting fight difficult (not i've tried intentionally), i've witnessed few shake ups @ bars , people don't seem feel bothering it. there's no feeling of police state, guns seen, , yet 1 still feels safe.
8) bike. when go somewhere, bicycle. biking ages manner of cargo , cars pay cyclists respect.
if you're young, come copenhagen, you'll love it. if you're hipster, you'll in hipster paradise. if biking, you'll in biking paradise. if drinking, you're in drunk paradise. if lighter drugs , "alternative" lifestyles christiania paradise.
done.
i have distant relatives live there, , it's peaceful. older , cannot compare current times.. give me young view?
