Toyota Eco Spirit 104 mpg!!!?

around 2002 toyota going make car around 104 mpg. have had lowest exhaust emissions also. why did toyota not follow through on idea? rising gas prices, more people can't afford cars. oil companies making tons of money , our economy suffering because have spend more @ pumps. why doesn't car manufactures produce cars on 90 mpg, sure wouldn't mind paying more car save money in long run.
