united states of america (press release) october 9, 2007 -- houston, texas (actionamerica.org) october 10, 2007 – last thursday, irs quietly released annual tax collections data percentile. in previous years, report totally dispels popular myth rich don’t pay tax. collections report, broken down income category or “percentiles,” shows while top earning 5 percent of income earners earn on third (36%) of income, pay two-thirds (60%) of tax collected.
top 5% pay 60% of taxes , earn 36% of income.
national sales tax or flat tax taxes consumption takes higher percent of lower income earnings. i.e. if cost $40,000 live food, rent, fuel etc 10% of $4000 yet if made 40 million , living cost food, rent, fuel $200,000 , 10% of $20,000 1 half of percent of made. lower income person paid 20 times more, though higher income person paid 5 times tax. fair?
