1 fits , feels better. forget brands. of them, in similar money bands give same quality. geometry , other things varies form brand brand, go fit , feeling above all.
said. consider other things too. if commuting need crud guards , panniers , lighting- make sure new mtb can accommodate welcome extras.
maybe hybrid bike better choice, depending on riding demands. go bike shop , ask lot , listen advice can give there. money can pretty decent commuter , single track bike.

i trading in road bike mountain bike. use 14 mile commute throwing in singletrack @ weekends. thinking of getting hardtail, possibly orange evo 8 or g3

budget around grand, should checking out?
