art of painting, 1 of greatest traditions in of human history has been under merciless , relentless assault last 1 hundred years. i'm referring accumulated knowledge of on 2500 hundred years, spanning ancient greece renaissance , through extraordinary pinnacles of artistic achievement seen in high renaissance, 17th century dutch, , great 19th century academies of europe , america. these traditions, when @ absolute zenith, @ peak of achievement, seemingly unbeatable , unstoppable, hit twentieth century @ full stride, , ... fell off cliff, , smashed pieces on rocks below. since world war contemporary visual arts represented in museum exhibitions, university art departments, , journalistic art criticism became little more juvenile, repetitive exercises @ proving former adult world whatever damn wanted ... sadly devolving ever downwards distorted, contrived , contorted notion of freedom of expression. freedom of expression? ironically, so-called "freedom" embodied in modernism, rather form of "expression" in truth became form of "suppression" , "oppression." modernism know it, became oppressive , restrictive system of thought in of art history.
every reasonable shred of order , standards possible identify, understand , create great paintings , sculpture, degraded ... detested ... desecrated , eviscerated. backbone of painters' craft, namely drawing, thrown trash along modeling, perspective, illusion, recognizable objects or elements real world, , ability capture, exhibit, , poetically express subjects , themes mankind , human condition , man's trials on speck of stardust called earth ... earth, hurtling through infinity of along on board, along know , hold dear.
reason ... philosophy ... religion ... literature ... fantasy ... dreams, , of feelings, emotions , pathos of our every day lives ... of no longer worthy of painter's craft. hint artist @ trying portray such things branded banal, maudlin, photographic, illustration, or petty sentimentality.
