Why are some aircraft engines position differently?

advantages rear mounted engines:

- less noise in cabin.
- thrust directed closer center line of aircraft, greater stability thrust acting 1 point.
- engine loss cause less yawing effect.
- less chance of ingestion of debris engines mounted higher.
- wings more aerodynamic , lighter.
- secondary flight controls can cover whole leading , trailing edges.(slats & flaps)
- saver ground personnel.

advantages of wing mounted engines.

- weight closer centre of gravity.
- heavier , larger diameter engines can installed underwings.
- thrust acts closer centre of gravity less effect of pitching moment.
- engine fires easier isolate.
- line maintenance easier preform.
- less fuel lines passing aft of aircraft.
- greatest structural support present @ wings.no need strength @ tail.
- no need 't' tailed design therefore less structural reinforcement required. can use trimmable horzontial stabilizer.

the common ones under wings, curious. why big airlines such b717 position @ rear?

improves airplane's performance? .. what's main difference (in terms of aircraft performance, if any) 2 different positions?
