Painting theatrical backdrops...?
quality oil or acrylic artist paints damn expensive stage props , backdrops. prop designers use tempera.
, can forget trying paint cardboard. cardboard doesn't work because instantly starts warp moment gets wet. instead of cardboard suggest use masonite or hardboard.
large 'murals' on walls, set painters don't paint directly on stage walls use large canvases cover.
if want use acrylic or oil based paint go cheapest possible house brand paint , stay away expensive quality artist paints. props temporary one-use props. unless theatre group has large storage area , intends re-use props on other productions, chances props discarded after run of production anyway.
what type of paint (oil/acrylic) best painting on (gessoed) cardboard/wood big backdrops?
, wall murials
