first year college experience

throughout lifetime have heard people talk college experiences , explain how college supposed “the best experience of life.” during senior year use try , imagine first semester going @ uic based on had heard people talk in past. after first semester @ uic realized couldn’t understand college until experienced myself. first couple of weeks @ uic rough , stressful. faced challenges , obstacles had never heard in past college experience conversations. uic big university , of time couldn’t find classes, , see me going map looking had go next. still remember, first friday, went wrong class. 10 in morning supposed go english class ended in history class, guess. small class english class. sat down , waited professor come in. looking @ me weird. girl asked me if first day, said “no!!!” little surprised. nervous couldn’t tell in wrong class until professor called names out , didn’t hear name. of sudden raised hand , tell him didn’t call name. looked on again , name not anywhere. asked, “are sure in right class miss?” embarrassed said “isn’t english 160?” started laughing , feeling stupid , embarrassed ran out of room. special moment never forget , i’m never embarrassed of telling on , on again. however, time passed things smoothed down. after few weeks started feeling more comfortable , making new friends.
college lot different high school. decided commute home campus. freshman experience made big impression on me. knew not going easy, unsure of ahead of me. 1 word describes feelings first had during first year @ uic responsibility, experienced academically , socially. college experience not other college student describe it. college students have lot of time on hands because classes spread out, things did not go way me. grew more responsible academically because classes straight point, , teachers spoke great knowledge. had keep tests , homework in short periods. took lot of responsibility me accomplish this. felt had change many things in life. had more sleep, finish homework fast, , make time study tests. in class felt same pressure.
in addition, academic work can make student stressed out. many student worries earning high score in test, quiz, class work. experience in earning grade has been stressful, because teachers make learning hard if work simple. example, there math teacher teachings different, instead of showing fastest way complete problem, chose longest way. there teachers had bad , thick accent couldn’t understand word saying. however, in high school teacher remind students when assignments due, not case in college. learned hard way first semester. forgot turn in assignment because didn’t read syllabus , professor never mentioned it. these new problems have let escalate without taking proper actions. 1 student had cautious , concentrated teacher saying. part doing good. getting grades couldn’t keep due dates.
i grew more responsible socially met more friends , became more acquainted them. exchanged phone numbers , on our breaks used , hang out. our hang out place quad called “la plaza.” of used meet there; play soccer , sometime chill there , talk or telling jokes. 1 day planned play soccer next day. met @ quad , started game started raining, decided go , play @ recreation center. went there got kicked out because didn’t have shorts , had no shoes on, playing on socks.
commuting everyday didn’t gave me enough time involved school activities. though tried g.i.v.e, volunteering program established university of illinois @ chicago promote community service, while helping students develop sense of responsibility , accomplishment, , other organization ended leaving because couldn’t keep meetings. however, did make lot of friends , had lot of fun together. there , had lot of fun. friends, organizations , sports things make uic home me.
