How much would it cost to fix a gas gauge on a Mazda Navajo?

last year mechanic did work on mazda , had tow because had radiator problems. when got home gas gauge wasn't working. didn't mind when gasoline less $3 gallon last year. fill , add gasoline every few days. gasoline running $4.28 gallon it's little harder , i've been running out of gasoline! put $15 in tank , took 2 trips , ran out of gasoline , weren't long trips. put in $20 worth , not sure take me. should ask mechanic fix or see how cost repair? feel should have fixed in first place!
