Car audio help - Malibu Classic 2005?

having problems hooking head unit (receiver) car. car 2005 malibu classic (not malibu). not have on-star. have been trying use quick connect purchased @ walmart goes between audio wires coming out behind dash/cluster; wires go head unit. however, not work. today informed @ stereo shop need different pin out quick connect. know pin out can use make stereo work? or know color code wires coming out behind dash can figure out pin out myself? - realize "quick connect" (with out chip) not allow car turned off , radio still playing until door opens, etc... thank help.
