Why are flowering plants dominant among other plants?
evolutionary advantage.
having different sexes , mating (during pollination), allows exchange of genetic material, if mutation (thats gives selective advantage) arise, able pass off other plants' offspring (and increasing genetic variation among population "good mutation"). if virus (or natural drought), came along , killed of plants didnt have selective advantage, you'll still retain of genetic variation.
allows many mutations come together, speeding evolution.
if plants reproduced asexually, they'll lose advantage. because, mutation stay original plant , offspring. , there no 'mating', genetic mixing come recombination within plant itself.
flowering plants, allow mating across great distances, , greater area of distribution of seed (ie. dandelion). whereas asexual plants can spread locally. flowering plants produce seeds dormant until sprout , can last through droughts, , can sprout when conditions right.
please explain prominence of angiosperms on other plants.
