Toyota Prius Parking brake help?

confusing p button on dash (to put car "parking gear") parking/emergency brake (foot-operated pedal in footwell outside of car)?

pressing p button change prndb display park , engage parking pawl (if car stopped - if going @ speed, car beep @ stupidly trying engage parking pawl , change neutral). pressing p button again not change things. you'll need press standard brake pedal (left of accelerator pedal) , use toggle joystick "gear selector" shift "gear" move out of park.

if parking/emergency brake applied, brake red warning light illuminated on dash. may still able move car, barely. press parking/emergency brake pedal down way (through clicks), , parking/emergency brake should release , brake light should go out.

if brake light still not go out, indication of problem in braking system (you should have yellow check engine light on well) , prius have failsafe prevent driving failed brakes.

i borrowed friends toyota prius , cant seem parking brake release.
when release brake light stays on , car wont move.
