there aren't rivers deep enough nimitz class carrier navigate far. class of ship , other comparable ships have deep draft means need lot of water under them. not depth of river stops them using it. width need turn 1,000 foot + long vessel around come out. navy couldn't risk having major ship in situation couldn't escape possible attacks. big ladies venture areas such san diego bay , puget sound , other large , deep areas.
