Printer problems,wont print right?

ok have hp printer....it around 5 years old.i try connect computer , says installed , everything, when try print page.. prints prints weird symbols on top of page.and keep printing , wont stop till turn off.i have tried figure out problem long time nobody knows whats wrong it.....btw when click "print test page" on printer prints fine , prints words , everything.so plz help
