How can I tell if they are my ancestors?

driving car.. there basic rules follow.
first rule.. start yourself, , work backwards, , use documents verify every step of way.
example.. birth certificate proves parents , so. birth certificates prove parents are/were. along way, find records show grandparents have other children (siblings parents).
thus.. creating solid chain of information.
research not finding persons same last name. related, not. keep being random dart throwing, remember.. looking parents (immediate family) of known relative. when know grandma jones born in town/ time.. search records in place/ time, show parents.

knowing looking for.. way know when find it. living persons not online in files.. have work past living persons, historical records.

when go on genealogy website see lot of people last name how know of these people ancestors?
