skin tan, not pale skin. skin cells contain pigment called melanin. when uv rays hit these cells causes melanin react protective force. melanin excited uv rays causes expand , fill more of skin cell. melanin acts bodies own sunscreen try , keep skin burning when in sunny environment. why tan people can stay out in sun longer periods of time. on time, tan "stay" if exposed high levels of uv rays. of course, can tan go away if limit exposure uv rays. black people have melanin in skin have greater amount. through evolution, white people have lost need melanin ever present in skin cells. however, melanin not prevent skin cancer.
