How to attach carpet to boat trailer bunk?

recarpeted bunks on trailer. cut carpeting wide enough cover top , sides of each bunker, used staple gun longer staples, think 5/8". staple 1 side first, using no staples on top boat ride. stretch carpet tight on top , pull down on other side , staple there well. if want top quality job hold long time, use stainless steel screws , washers instead of staples. i'm not sure glue hold submerging in water. repair has been in place 3 or 4 years no problems.
