How do you perform a seonce?

1. blackout room - i.e., cover windows black curtains , make sure can totally black when lights off.

2. best friend dress on in black , maybe paint his/her face in black theatrical greasepaint too.

3. conceal friend in room - behind sofa, in cupboard, somewhere (let's call friend he) can come out quietly , quickly.

4. light room single table lamp, low wattage bulb, 15w. maybe shade lamp red shade, too.

5. assemble crowd of credulous people (we'll call them, in best carny tradition, 'marks') believe/sort-of-believe in ghosts. serious , bit preoccupied.

6. have marks sit around table , join hands.

7. out of kindness, don't pretend contacting anyone's dead relatives, or anything. go either distant ancestors or strangers.

8. when ready, turn off light. when want black-clad friend start making spirituals, throw him pre-arranged verbal signal (a phrase 'give me sign if you're there!')

9. cue invisible friend start bumping furniture, etc. mustn't close marks or feel he's there, hear breath , on. if has noisemaking devices, can come in useful.
