Hooking Up Monitor Via Serial Cable?

i'm getting old monitor (gateway vivitron 19") somebody, , said comes w/power cord , serial cable i'm set. question is, need special? i've never heard of connecting via serial cable, used vga. going connecting video card (my card has vga , dvi ports), or computers serial port (e.g., legacy port commonly used mice/modems in day). wanna make sure needed cables/adaptors before arrives...thanks!
