Studying graphic design in college?

i'm junior in high school, , interested in graphic design. have dilemma. i've never considered myself particularly "creative." i'm not sure true other people think of me, when people learn i'm in art classes or our schools "arts intensive path," seem bit surprised. it's because think of me "smart," not "artsy." (which i've never thought of being different.)

anyway. i'm wondering idea of going in graphic design. seems think it's on done. 5% of people go field have real talent. , it's not career. it's discouraging me. know shouldn't let others me. because haven't been enthused arts long, feel might not others. people's thoughts on this? better choice advertising design? differences between advertising , graphic design?

i'm looking colleges. because unsure current goal, don't want go art institute. know of liberal arts universities or colleges graphic design program? i'm wanting stay more north - ct, pa, ma, ny, ri, , ca (which now). purdue has program - no portfolio required until spring of sophomore year, apply high level graphic design program. there in of places? indiana doesn't seem right me.

thank if read all! :) appreciate it.
