What is the cost of living in Canada?

economies of canada , united states extremely similar because both developed countries, have mixed economies , each other's largest trading partners. however, key differences in population makeup, geography, government policies, , productivity result in different economies.

in canada prices have long tended higher. partly because of structural issues in canada such low population density , harsher weather, , partly due canada's tax system, depends more heavily on sales taxes relative income taxes us. fuel prices have been higher in canada, though canada net exporter of energy. partly same reasons above , partly because of taxes levied on fuel. unlike many oil producers, particularly in developing world, canada not heavily subsidize fuel, prices based on world market price.

standard of living perhaps hardest measurement make since wide array of factors have taken account. united nations human development index has traditionally listed canada (ranked fourth) higher united states (ranked twelfth). other independent groups, such economist, rank canadian cities better places live american ones. in 2005 ranking, 4 of top 10 livable cities canadian (vancouver, toronto, calgary , montreal) vancouver taking number 1 spot, while highest ranked american cities cleveland , pittsburgh, tied @ 26th place.

i'm thinking of moving canada , wondering if more expensive live there or here in states.
