Traditional Bridal Dance?
don't know if there actual "rules" know it's tradition around area (western pa). i've heard it's original area , other areas never heard of "bridal dance" (curious hear comments on this). heard it's polish/slovak tradition? not sure how accurate is. anyway......bride stands in middle of circle (usually made chairs) , bride's maids stand @ entrance of circle. maid/maitron of honor wears apron put money paid dance bride. people pay $1.00 dance bride, put more money in. i've seen done way: people "tie" money (twist up, etc) - purpose behind this, i've heard, keep bride & groom busy untieing money instead of, well, know....consumating marriage. (of course it's joke).
once "pay" advace bride , dance - around in circle, hugging several seconds before next person comes in. groups enter , dance in circle around holding hands (i've seen done, too). after leave dancing her, groomsmen offer either piece of wedding cake (neatly wrapped), cigar or shot of wiskey.
if bride gets tired (these bridal dances can go on long periods of time), signals brides maids , circle around her, dancing, while takes drink of water , catches breath.
can go through line & dance many times you'd like, until groom comes. ((usually bride's mother , father last dance before groom comes.))
when groom comes, bridal party forms strong circle around bride has "break" through in order bride. once gets bride sweeps off feet , runs out of reception hall her. on way out, supposed take shoes off of feet. traditionally, shoes later passed around , people put money in them -- supposedly couple's first child.
when bride & groom exit reception, jump in car or limo, etc. , leave honeymoon. more now, though, bride & groom seen returning reception continue celebrating guests.
think covered know on subject. lol i'm "hunkey" (slovak & polish) , strong tradition @ weddings here in western pa.
oh, , often, guests, waiting in line dance bride, shake handkerchiefs in air (or napkins). there traditional bridal dance song here (not sure of other places), not know it's name. not sure shaking/waving of handkerchiefs supposed signify.
ok.....now i'm done!! lol
does know rules traditional bridal dance?
