How do we best learn to write poetry?

since "seek after truth", i'll answer question: best way learn write poetry first read, analyze, write. learn how paint looking @ else's painting, studying style, media, techniques, trying imitate. once can write in style, try another, , another, , yet another. you'll find study, analyze, , write, you'll find style best , end writing more along lines others. artist can create art in many styles using variety of media, can poets write in variety of styles. ultimately, you'll find voice, own style, etc. however, in beginning, if want become better poet, it's best eat elephant 1 spoonful @ time. pick copy of norton's anthology of poetry, open page 1 , go there. pick books on poetry analysis, writing, , books on specific styles, haiku, etc. poetry way of life, not end of journey. more read, more analyze, , more write, more differently @ world. start see connections, create metaphors in nomal speech, etc. see actions relate things unique perspective, because you've trained mind think in different terms, in less literal terms...which sets prose apart poetry. can write "poetry", if want learn how write "good" poetry, you'll find it's never ending study, rewarding journey.
