What photo software should i start with for my photography courses?

if enrolled in photography school, ask instructor. if student, should eligible student discounts on software. might have send in proof, or show student id, worth it. (i know photoshop cs3 around $150 educational pricing)

if willing spend time learn it, photoshop way go. photoshop elements has of features of big brother, , in respects nicer user interface. can had around $100 ($35 educational). might want take @ lightroom. dslr should come basic editing software / raw converter.

im getting digital slr camera , im taking photography classes. should buy photoshop cs3..or know of others thats better price great quality? have desktop vista incase matters. ive used photo editing software basic stuff.
