Why is my 85 Subaru stalling out?

have 85 subaru gl 60k on it. had been running little strange while back, start , not idle until gave engine gas minute or two. has happened car start fine , run 5 seconds, start sputter , conk out. after stalls out, can't start till next day, 5 seconds of fine running followed hick-ups unless give gas. if give gas, still running hard , missing @ times. i'm not car guy, don't have money take looked @ professionally. ideas of trouble shooting tips?

seems have newer wire, cap, not sure plugs.
