What does "Sqwak" mean when refering to aircraft...?

file ifr , don't know "squawk" means?? pardon me full of sh*t! pure , simple, pal! hell, private pilot student pilot knows means around 2nd or 3rd hour in air!

leads me suspect you're dimwit terrorist wanna-be -- , dhs got same idea well. luck, they'll find before chance pick best answer.

addendum: ahhhhh! makes lot more sense! ok, noted other posters they're telling code set on transponder. i'll take farther maybe you'll understand bit better.

radar systems used faa interact transponder inside virtually every aircraft in order positively identify every aircraft in air. radar returns little more moving dot on screen; tell controllers location, speed , direction not or how high are. transponder adds information system can identify callsign, altitude, , more accurate speed information.

transponder used signal emergencies such hijackings (7500). in event of hijacking pilot squawks 7500, universal code hijacking. instantly tells atc aircraft under duress, without knowledge of hijackers.

1 of reasons faa had problems tracking hijacked aircraft on 9/11 hijackers took direct control of aircraft , switched off transponders. leaves faint trace on radar screen no identification information , many specialized radars lose track of aircraft without transponder data. since 9/11, various rules changes have been proposed prevent transponder being turned off , lock 7500 squawk once it's been dialled in.

i fly ifr flightplans, , when contact clearance, "alaska 597, cleared edmonton airport filed, fly runway heading, climb , maintain 10,000 (feet), departure on 120.5, sqwak 0577
