Math problem. boat speed?

when boat travelling in still waters, speed of respect earth same speed of respect water. means boat can travel @ speed of 8mph respect water.

lets assume water moving. boat travel @ speed of 8mph respect water, person on dry land sees travelling @ different speed. imagine running on treadmill. know running standing side sees @ same spot.

happens here velocity of water added velocity of boat. if boat going downstream, speed of water added speed of boat resultant speed. if boat travels upstream have deduct speed of water speed of boat resultant speed.

lets v rate of water , t time considered.

when travelling downstream, velocity = 8+v
15 = t(8+v)

when travelling upstream, velocity = 8 -v (towards upstream)
9 = t(8 - v)

15/9 = (8+v)/(8-v)
15(8-v) = 9(8+v)
120 - 15v = 72 + 9v
48 = 24v
v = 2

rate of water 2mph.

a boat can travel 8 mph in still water. if can travel 15 miles downstream in same time can travel 9 miles stream, rate of stream? explain 2 me if u can please
