Samsung flat screen monitor question please?

bought 20 inch flat screen samsung lcd monitor has 8000 1contrast ratio love noticed got light grey shaded colors in places picture or website go should black normal? , im not sure if hd or not , no computer isnt equipped dvi cable inputs either 1 of problems? or told me might need upgrade video or graphics card.. , 1 other thing windows xp , 3 years old, monitor came doesnt have these gray shaded areas computer techs online please me understand problem if there one. or way supposed look? , yes tried adjusting monitor settings on front helped brightness not gray. , have download graphics card or have put inside computer? , id rather not mess things cause dont know im doing know basics.
