How high can rotary aircraft go before losing lift due to air density?

thehighest i've ever been in rotorcraft 10,000 msl (in bell jetranger) , starting pretty 'mushy'. i've been told there rotorcraft can 15,000 msl, don't know how true is.

yes, fixed-wing behave in same (as far prop efficiency concerned) limits 'service ceiling' on fixed wing aircraft wing itself.

iirc world record prop-driven fixed wing aircraft still held bunch of germans made 60,000 or in 30's.

doug

does fixed-wing aircraft behave in same way in straight climb?
