Canceled Car Insurance?

so, found out today, state farm canceled car insurance. coverage through feb. 1st. billing date feb. 1st, charge me day or 2 late. charged me today renter's insurance, how found out have no car insurance. state farm never informed me canceling policy. said have had many incidents. have had 2 accidents , 1 ticket in past 2 years. 1 accident fault , other not. ticket because of accident. question is: can insurance company when have not had insurance past 4 days (even though didn't know it) , going lot more expensive because not have current policy?
